Updated: Oct 24, 2020
Lemongrass is a fragrant plant widely used in Indias and South East Asia cooking and has many cosmetic advantages. Read on to learn about the properties of lemongrass on the skin.
What is Lemongrass?
Lemongrass or citronella is a plant that comes from Asia (India and South East Asia).
Like most grass types of plants, it grows naturally in the wild. It is a perennial, meaning that it will repeatedly grow every year, appreciated for the aroma and fresh taste it brings to the kitchen, used in many Thai and Vietnamese dishes.
Its shape is similar to a leek and has a powerful green color and a rich citrus smell; when you cut through it, you can see all the inner rings identical to those on an onion.
What properties does it have for the skin?
Lemongrass is not the first word that comes into people's mind when they think of beauty products but its a very interesting ingredient to use on your skin for the following reasons:
Large pores are among the most common concerns we have about our skin, especially for people with oily skin. Lemongrass eliminates excess oil and helps to reduce pores for a more uniform face.
Helps reduce cellulite
Massage these soaps into the skin in critical areas and then gently brushing, with a final rinse.
It is refreshing
Lemongrass has a pleasant fresh aroma; this way brings freshness to the skin. The refreshing sensation it leaves is delightful, especially in the mornings when it can help us wake up completely.
Helps to treat acne skin
Lemongrass soap, thanks to its properties against bacteria and fungi, is very beneficial for skin with acne or pimples if used regularly. For oily and unbalanced skin, applied topically, it helps to combat seborrheic imbalances.

Citronella essential oil has energizing and stimulating properties. For the skin, this means a boost of energy: goodbye tired face!
Relax in a bath with citronella foam to add other essential oils such as lavender and tell us about it.
Thanks to its high content of vitamins A and C and antioxidants, lemongrass protects the skin from free radicals, perfect for fighting pollution, and as a natural product is safe to use every day for a glowing complexion!
They contain elements with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties that help keep bacteria and fungi at bay, even in children.

Protects your skin from mosquito bites
Many insects do not like its citric smell to avoid areas where citronella is present or environments with its aroma. Washing with a citronella mosquito repellent soap will prevent them from coming near you.
You can also put some tablets using it as a mosquito repellent air freshener in a small area.
Anti-flea and tick
If used on animals, it prevents infestation by these external parasites. Perhaps best in the liquid citronella soap version rather than the bar version.
Stops body odor
The soap made with citronella helps prevent body odor if used regularly because it stops body sweating. Be patient, and, in time, you will see the results.
Improves hair health
But you will have to find the right citronella in the soap for this use, especially for hair. Other essential oils are usually added, such as eucalyptus or camphor oil, that will leave you with incredible hair.
